Annette Vance Dorey Tuesday, May 6 at 6:30 pmThe Falmouth Historical Society and Falmouth Memorial Library invite you to a special talk by Maine author and historian Annette Vance Dorey who will discuss her book Maine Mothers Who Murdered, 1875-1925: Doing Time in State Prison. Most people don’t realize that dozens of women and girls were incarcerated in the Maine State Prison at Thomaston. Maine Mothers Who Murdered collects the long-forgotten stories behind the shocking headlines of over thirty mothers accused of their child’s murder between 1875 and 1925 with new details about the prison and jails of the time. Dorey uses these stories as the backdrop to a broader women’s history and a closer look at Maine’s criminal justice and correctional system history.
